Diane Von Furstenberg b. 1946

Fashion designer Diane von Furstenberg was born in Brussels and studied economics in Switzerland, where she met her Austro-Italian husband, Prince Egon von Furstenberg. In 1973, after moving to the United States, von Furstenberg designed a stunningly simple and now-iconic knitted jersey wrap dress. She soon expanded her upscale designer line to include cosmetics, fragrances, sunglasses, furs, scarves, and linens. An activist in fashion, Von Furstenberg received the 2005 Lifetime Achievement Award from the Council of Fashion Designers of America, an organization she now serves as president.
